Enerhiya sa basura: Mayor Osmeña sees power potential in Cebu landfill
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is looking at the possibility of constructing a “waste-to-energy” (WTE) facility at their Inayawan Sanitary Landfill.
In a Sunstar Cebu online report March 12, the politiko said the proposed WTE is part of the local government unit’s efforts to rehabilitate the landfill.
Osmeña said he will base his WTE model to an operational one in Bangkok, Thailand which is capable of generating electricity from 500 tons of trash daily.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration first introduced the plan to construct a WTE in 2013 to deal with the huge amount of trash in their city, the same Sunstar Cebu report said.
Out of the 9,000 tons of garbage collected in Bangkok daily, 1,000 tons are used for their WTE with the reminder being recycled.
