Why protect the criminal? Gwen Garcia explains death penalty vote
Why should we be kind to criminal minds?
Cebu Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia voted in favor of restoring death penalty, and could not actually see why people are so opposed to the measure which seeks to punish monstrous criminals.
What is “right” is subjective, and for Garcia, it’s wrong to let a person who committed an abominable crime by just simply rotting in jail.
“It still up to now confuses me why those that are against death penalty are so focused on protecting the rights of one who has committed a crime so depraved and so atrocious,” Garcia said in an interview with CNN Philippines, recounting the case of a four-month-old baby in Carcar, Cebu who was raped by a drug addict.
“I cannot understand why we must focus on being so kind to this criminal at the same time forgetting the victim and the family of that victim who had suffered immeasurably,” she added.
As far as Garcia is concerned, she voted with her morals in check.
