Tommy Osmeña says a gun ban won’t be effective vs terrorists. Here’s why
Criminals don’t follow the law anyway, so a gun ban won’t do much.
If he had his way, Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña would not implement a gun ban during the stretch of the Sinulog Festival. The politiko said it was a poor conclusion to make that placing a citywide gun ban would deter wrongdoers from committing a crime.
“Criminals are by definition people who do not follow the law. Why should government think that a “gun ban” would in any way stop those who seek to break the law from breaking the law?,” the politiko said on Facebook.
“Prohibiting a person who passed all these government-mandated screenings from utilizing his license is an admission of government’s distrust in its own screening process. If government will not allow law-abiding people their means of self-defense during the Sinulog, why allow them at all?”
Someone with bad intentions will stick to their strategy no matter what the rules are anyway, Osmeña said.
