Plans to transfer MOPJ into bigger area now ongoing – Misamis Oriental Gov Emano
Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano said plans to Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) to a much bigger area is now ongoing.
The politiko made the statement after receiving reports that some inmates in the MOPJ made several attempts to escape.
“We no longer have plans to repair the old existing provincial jail at the junction of Corrales and Juan Luna Streets in Cagayan De Oro City because of the plan to transfer the provincial jail to other areas in Misamis Oriental,” Emano said.
He said that the provincial government is eyeing a four-hectare land in the province, as donated by a concerned citizen, to sufficiently house more than 600 inmates in the new penitentiary.
The Misamis Oriental governor emphasized that the prisoners, including the minor inmates, would have a new home equipped with new facilities, much bigger space for recreation, rehabilitation and livelihood.
“The provincial government is awaiting the approval of the municipal ordinance of the proposed Public-Private Partnership Ordinance (PPP) by the provincial board,” Emano said.
He said that the PPP approval hopes to secure the funding for the construction of the new jail facility.
The provincial board has set the discussion and possible approval of the proposed PPP early next year.
